Vanesa Fernandez

My name is Vanesa Fernandez and I'm from Huitzo Michoacán Mexico! I've been playing croquet for about 3 years! I was walking by a group of students who were playing in the center of my college campus at Oklahoma Wesleyan University, I thought they looked silly hitting balls with mallets. I decided to try it thinking, “it can't be that hard to get a ball through a hoop, right”? Soon I realized there was much more to the game than that! I quickly fell in love with the game and decided to join the team! There is a strategic side to the game, and there is a physical side to the game. Both are needed to win a game! Players can talk all the strategy they want, but if they can't execute the shot, then it does no good. That is what drives me to keep getting better and share croquet with others!

I am proud to say that I am representing my home country-Mexico in the 2023 Women's Golf Croquet World Championship that will be held in Sussex England this August! I am very excited to play in my first world tournament! I will get to go against players from all over the world with different styles of playing! I am the most excited about simply wearing my flag and showing people that Mexico can make wickets too!
